The short version

The TopNote app collects nothing about you. This website and its analytics run entirely on infrastructure we own — no third-party services in the loop — and the analytics themselves are cookie-free with no personal data, no cross-site tracking, and nothing ever sold or shared with anyone.

The TopNote app

TopNote has no accounts, no analytics SDK, and no telemetry. It reads what's currently playing from macOS itself and sends playback commands to macOS itself — none of that ever leaves your Mac.

The one exception: on launch, and roughly once a day, the app makes a single request to /api/version on this website to check whether a newer version exists. That request carries nothing about you or your Mac — it's a plain GET with no identifiers attached — and the response is just the latest version number and a download link.

This website

This site uses Umami, a cookie-free analytics tool, to understand traffic and improve the site — self-hosted by us at umami.nsweb.space, not a third-party analytics service. It collects, in aggregate:

  • Page URL and referrer
  • Browser, operating system, and device type (parsed from your browser's user agent)
  • Approximate country, derived from IP address at the moment of the request — the IP address itself is never stored
  • A small number of custom events: clicking a "Download" button (which one, and which app version was offered)

None of this identifies you individually, no cookies are set, and nothing is used to track you across other websites. The data stays on infrastructure we run ourselves — it isn't shared with or sold to any third party.

Changes to this policy

If what TopNote or this website collects ever changes, this page will be updated to reflect it.
